With a batch of new films, Leelee Sobieski
has landed Never call Leelee Sobieski a slacker. "I
want to be a director, painter, writer, poet, actress,
potter, interior decorator, architect, clothing designer,
shoe designer, stockbroker, real estate agent, producer,
screenwriter," says the 16-year-old. "And," she adds,
pausing for air, "mother and wife."
That should take several lifetimes,
but Sobieski is off to a strong start. She paints, composes
poetry and makes pottery --- and her acting career has
exploded. She was wed to Elijah Wood in May's Deep Impact
and stars as Kris Kristofferson's daughter in the new
drama A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries. Next July, she'll
be seen opposite Tom Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut.
"Leelee is just the most scrumptious,
delicious, wonderful actress," says Drew Barrymore,
her costar in the upcoming comedy Never Been Kissed.
"She's completely refinded and yet a total blast."
The refined quality presumably comes
from her parents, Jean, a French painter, and Elizabeth,
a writer who doubles as her daughter's manager. Born
and raised in Manhattan, Sobieski, who has one brother,
Roby, 9, landed the part of Marlo Thomas's daughter
in the 1994 TV movie Reunion and made her film debut
in '97's Jungle 2 Jungle.
Despite her success, Sobieski considers
herself a "regular teenager" at her New York City private
school. And while her busy schedule takes it's toll
--- "I haven't had a serious boyfriend since third grade"
--- she has no intention of slowing down. "I'm energized
right now," she says. A good thing, since she's got
a dozen careers left to go.
