Gig: Actress
For someone who doesn't even have a driver's license
yet, Helen Hunt look-alike Leelee Sobieski sure gets
around. First, she romanced Elijah Wood in the summer
blockbuster Deep Impact. It was a role Leelee
admits she really threw herself into.
"During filming I had a little crush
on him, but nothing happened. He's so nice and so smart,
but he's very protected.
Next stop Paris, where Leelee practiced
her French for this fall's A Soldier's Daughter Never
Cries as (who else?) the soldier's daughter. Her
biggest break yet, however was being cast by the ultra-eccentric
director Stanley Kubrick in the Tom Cruise Nicole Kidman
flick Eyes Wide Shut. A movie that's so hush-hush,
the actors have been sworn to secrecy.
"I had to sign a contract stating I
wouldn't say anything at all," explains Leelee, who
was discovered in her school cafeteria.

Just
how top secret was the shoot? Leelee never even got
to read the entire script. Her scenes where given to
her bit by bit as they were shot.
"It was very real because
I never knew what was going to happen next," Leelee
says.
What will happen next?
She stars opposite Drew Barrymore in the upcoming flick,
Never Been Kissed, about an undercover reporter
posing as a high schooler. With her star rising fast
- not to mention her height (just while shooting Deep
Impact, she grew 2 whole inches) - this L.A. gal
is destined to become one of the brightest newcomers
to hit the screen this year.
