ARTICLES Leeleesobieski.com - Phone Interview

Hello?

Yes, this is Leelee calling for Eric Mitchell.

This is him!

Hi Eric, how are you?

Fine, how are you?

Good.

Recuperating from the Emmys?

Yeah, I suppose.

Ok, first of all I want to thank you for taking time out of your schedule to talk with me.

Oh, you're welcome! You made a really lovely website.

Thank you! This brings us into our first question. Who was your date to the Emmys?

My mother and my father.

Was that your father sitting next to you?

Yes, I do believe it was.

Ok, second question. What's your current official height?

5'9''

Still 5'9''?

Yes, I had on really tall heels.

Ok, that explains it. This next question is kind of strange, but I've actually been asked this quite a few times. What's your favorite color?

My favorite color. That was a question, actually, I used to ask people all the time. I used to ask, "what's your favorite color?" and I always came up with some obnoxious answer. You know. I mean, even though black and white aren't colors, I used to say black is my color because in paint, it's all the colors and in lighting it's none of them. And then white is my favorite color because in lighting it is all the colors, and in paint it's none of them. But they're actually not colors, so I don't really have a favorite color.

Ok, that's fine. I don't really have one either, I used to say that mine was clear...because you can see through it.

I like that answer, that's lovely!

If you could live anywhere in the world, where and why?

New York City.

You like New York City, huh? I was just there this summer.

Did you like it?

It's nice, but I live on a farm, so closed in spaces aren't exactly my favorite places to be. But it's nice enough.

I'd like a quiet apartment in a very nice family walkable neighborhood. With some, you know, obnoxious artsy people.

Next questions is kind of strange again. Where do you want to be buried?

Where do I want to be buried? That's a very strange question.

Yes, it came from one of the regulars at our site who's known for asking those strange questions.

I'm not quite sure. I kind of would like to be burned. Spread out somewhere. You know a little bit everywhere. I'd like to have maybe, a little bit kind of floating around New York, and a little bit planted under a tree, and a little in the south of France. You know, scattered in different places...wherever people that I love would travel around the world and they would find a spot they really like. I wish that they would, you know, drop 3 of my ashes there, and then I could go anywhere I want.

Ok, we now go back to the more shallow ones. Favorite all time movie?

Favorite all time movie?

Ironically I don't know that.

Do you know what your all time favorite film is?

Yes I do.

What?

Amadeus

Amadeus, I LOVE that film. It's wonderful, and it's so great when he starts laughing *imitates laugh*.

Yes, he played him well. It's a pity he didn't play anyone else that well.

He didn't?

Nope. Not from what I've seen. So, do you have an answer?

I haven't seen enough films to come up with a favorite because I'm sure there's some film I'll see in the future that'll be my favorite. At present, I mean, I've liked Crybaby my entire life. But when I watch it now, I watch it more with the fond memories of it from when I was a child. I love Amadeus though, that's a wonderful film.

Ok. In Seventeen magazine you say you want to study art in college, right?

Yeah, but I'm not quite sure about that. I was thinking about that, and I don't know. If I study art in college, what can they really teach me besides technique? And I don't want to waste my time in college just learning technique. I think you can learn on your own time, as well as when you're inspired, and when you have an assignment to do something. So, maybe I would take different courses. Maybe go to film school. I don't know.

One of the crewmembers at the site is going to go into film school...Do you have any College or University in mind? But, since you're basically undecided, I don't guess you could have.

Exactly

Ok, so I'm answering them for ya here! Next question. You say you want to direct someday. If you were to start directing a movie right now, what kind of movie would it be?

A really dark, sick comedy, I believe.

Would you want to play any part in it other than directing it?

Maybe like an old woman.

In the near future, which actor/actress/director would you most want to work with?

I would really like to work with Jodie Foster, I really like her. Dustin Hoffman as an actor. And of course the usuals, Meryl Streep. Director...there's so many, you know, I mean it's hard to narrow it down always to 1, or 2, or 3. Because I mean, for different things you always want to work with different people.

Yes, it depends on what kind of movie it is, really.

Yes

Your thoughts on Independent films? Most importantly, would you still do them knowing you won't get paid as much as you're used to getting paid?

Yes, of course. I mean, I think as long as a film is good. The only bad part about Independent films is that not so many people actually watch them, or get to see them. So, a lot of times you put a lot of effort into this work, and not so many people actually watch it.

Kind of like A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries.

Exactly

I had to travel 90 miles away just to watch it.

Oh No!

Yeah, that was the closest place it was playing.

But I do love independent films, by the way. And I had a wonderful time doing it.

Ok, in your recent articles you say that you regret ever bringing up the Virgin thing. And I'm not going to bring it up now. But it seems that the articles are now all dwelling on the fact that you have no boyfriend. Do you regret ever bringing that up?

You know, I don't ever really regret saying anything, because when you say something, you say it. So you can't really regret it. But I guess the virgin thing just because it's kind of a private fact about you, and you feel kind of silly. And the boyfriend thing...you know, Oh well, so what?

Fair enough. This question came to me last night, and I hope you don't take offense to this. But, do more people now pretend to be your friend because you're famous?

Um, I think it's happening a little bit more now. Yeah, that's starting to happen more. I can tell that by the way people act around me. You know sometimes they may smile...

And on that note, do your actual friends get mad at how much time you're away?

Yeah, sometimes they do, and sometimes it's hard for them I think because, you know, if you get recognized or something and you're always really polite to a fan and you always take your time out to smile, or shake their hand or take a photo of them, or give an autograph or whatever it may be. Because, it's so lovely that they admire you, and then if you're going out with a friend, and then all of these minutes, where a lot of the time you're working, go away, and all this in the time you spend with your friend. All that time you're taking some of their time away, you know. Sometimes I think they get a little bit annoyed with that. It's kind of hard, you know, they say "I want to spend time with you!". So, it's hard. But at the same time I get to take them to really cool parties.

Well, that's true. So it kind of makes up for it. Now, what was your favorite part about filming Here on Earth?

I really loved Minneapolis. It's a really artistic town, I really like it. There's wonderful architecture, the downtown area, the architecture was, I mean it was new but it was really lovely. Like, they pay a lot of attention to the detail, and made a lot of effort to make these buildings really interesting buildings. I really love the people there, they were really, you know, nice and real.

Now on to the two most serious questions. When everything is said and done. And you're gone. And people look back over the years and remember you, what do you want them to remember most?

I guess for the person I was. The artwork that I created, the family that I left behind. I guess you want to be remembered for all the good things you have done in your life. And I guess I don't really know what the best is. I suppose when I become a mother and a wife, those will be two of the most important things. And I'm sure there will be some painting that I do. Um, you always feel that you can improve on everything that you've done. So, right now I don't know what I really want to be remembered for because as you get older and as your life goes on you always feel like you can learn more, like you can improve on everything. You can gain more knowledge. You know, everything can get better, and there's only a few select things I think you feel that you can't change. And then I think certain pieces of work as an actress, or as a director, or as a painter, or as a writer, or as anything you do. There's certain things that during that period of your life, they were perfect, they really represented that. Or, they were a big part of it. Say, when you played that role, you put just a touch of yourself in it. I guess I want to be remembered for being a good interesting person.

Next question. This one is extremely broad, and you can answer it however you choose. And we'll look at it from there. Who are you now?

Who am I now? I'm a teenage girl...that's smart, and is interested in many different things, but needs to read some more and get some more knowledge, because this teenage girl tends to feel that she fits in the shoes of a someone with a lot of knowledge, and in a way has a lot of knowledge...but doesn't really. Like, I've gained the knowledge, in a way, from reading the books and watching the films, but in a way I haven't read the book or watched the films. There's so many things in life that I want to do, which is good I guess. Leelee, Leelee is now also a silly girl, you know. In the way that silly girls are. You know, your emotions inside go up and down and left to right. You feel different ways, I guess. I'm a daughter, I'm a sister, I'm a friend.

Who just happens to have an acting career, right?

Exactly, exactly. And the acting career takes up a lot of my time. Which, I'm very fortunate that I have an acting career, and at the same time I also have a lot of other things that I want to do with that time.

Ok, now on to questions about the site. We know that we're not the official site, and we will not bother your family about it further, cause I know that you all know that we're here if you ever decide to take that route. Do you understand that?

Yes I do. Have I sent any messages to your site?

I needed to ask you about that.

Those are all mine! I'm sure they're all mine, unless there's any really crazy ones.

Well, some of them we know aren't you, based on vary reasons. One of the easiest ways to tell is to see where the message was sent from. I mean, if they sent it from Australia, I know it's not you. Anyhow, next question. Several of us at the site are poetry writers, like yourself, and we were wondering if you had any more poetry that you could send our way?

I have to tell you, that one poem in the Details magazine, there's two poems. One of them was supposed to be a joke.

Which one?

The one that says "She was a this and did that, and I'm all these things combined." It was a joke, and it was amongst 3 other poems. And they were all kind of making fun of acting, and making fun of actresses, and making fun of myself. I was just being silly. And I don't know why, but they just printed that one by itself. So, it comes across as this really weird pretentious thing, and it wasn't that way at all. That poem, it was with 3 other poems and it was just supposed to be a joke, it wasn't really serious.

Ok, I'll clarify it one the page. So, do you have any more?

Any more good ones...I have a ton of poetry, I have a ton of really bad poetry. But, um, I have a GOOD poem. I don't know if I, I think I actually published it in some magazine, but I don't know which magazine it came out in.

Ok, if you find one that you want to share, just post it.

Ok, wonderful.

That's all the questions I have for you.

Ok, wonderful. And, you say too many kind things on your website.

Thank you. And thanks again!

Ok, thank you very much. Bye Bye.
